Dear animation-campus members, Dear colleagues and friends,
This newsletter is written in English because three institutions - a Chinese, a Hungarian and a Norwegian one - joined the animation-campus. The communication language will therefore be English from now on.
The meeting in Stuttgart on May 3rd 2006 took place according to the established program.
Participants
Rather than detailed minutes, the following is a list of facts, ideas and proposals that were discussed during the meeting. This list is neither complete nor final. Please let us know if something essential has been left out.
We are happy and proud to welcome the new members. Their interest in the animation-campus will establish new synergies between higher and further education on an international level. It will help to develop co-produced workshops and will allow the international exchange of teachers and students. It will also help to increase the visibility of the animation departments within the schools and facilitate the connection to partners in cultural and public institutions as well as to other universities of art.
The following institutions contributed through their research and work-in-progress information for the future Bachelor-Master structure.
Jochen Ehmann, HGK Luzern, CH The future Master course will be given within the department Design. The four semester course (after six semesters of Bachelor program) will simulate a production company and teach the students in professional team-working procedures. For further information: > Activities > Master-Bachelor > HGK-L
Olivier Riechsteiner, ESBA Genève, CH The two Geneva Art Schools (ESBA and HEAA) will offer a common training platform in animation. The professional animation training however is still in an embryonic state. There are hopes to create a "pôle de compétences" in the not too distant future.
Robert Rose, Fachhochschule Augsburg, DE Optimistic news from Augsburg: Changes are chances! The animation training will be part the Interactive Media Department. There will be a 7 semester Bachelor and 3 semester Master course offered. For further information: www.fh-augsburg.de/multimedia/
Georges Siffianos, ENSAD, Paris, FR A notice on the European Credits Transfert System (ECTS) has been elaborated by Catherine Graindorge and Georges Siffianos. For further information: >Activities > Master-Bachelor > ENSAD
Reseau/Netzwerke Cinema CH The Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Zürich (hgkz) and the Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale (HES-SO) offer within the Reseau/Netzwerke Cinema CH Master-Studies in Filmmaking (no Animation). For further information: www.netzwerk-cinema.ch
The present members had the opportunity to follow the fmx-talk of Doug Cooper from Dream Works Animation on the subject of "What filmmakers should know about games".
Following this presentation, we had the privilege to meet Sven Liebich from Phenomic Game Development (Die Siedler, Spellforce). Sven Liebich was lecturing on "How to prepare students for a job in the game industry." Many thanks to Sven Liebich for his availability and patience.
The animation-campus internet page will be in English in the future. Individual contributions on > Activities and > Links however will be published in their original language.

Our next meeting is scheduled for the "Carrefour de l'Animation" from 30th March to 1st April 2007 at the Forum des Images in Paris, France. www.forumdesimages.fr Please book these dates already now.
Game-Design will be the main topic of our meeting in Paris. In addition, the "Carrefour de l'Animation" suggests to show a special animation-campus film program. Every school from our network will have the unique opportunity to show a 5 to 10 minutes selection of recent student films. More and detailed information concerning the Paris event will follow in the next newsletter.
We are looking forward to this meeting and hope that the teachers and students from the animation-campus schools will join us in Paris next year. Many thanks in advance to Frédéric Lavigne and Sylvie Porte for hosting our fourth meeting in Paris.
How to teach game-design, the opportunities for students in the field of the game-industry, non-linear scriptwriting and many other questions in connection with games will be the subject of our research this year. Lotti Bauer from the HGK Zurich and Tanja Huber from FOCAL will both research and report on this subject. Special events during the "Carrefour de l'Animation" in Paris will also focus on this topic. Furthermore, FOCAL is planning a Game-Design Workshop in Spring 2007. Please announce yourself to animation-campus@focal.ch. if you would like to join the research group or if you have interesting information or questions on the subject.
